Description

The legislative and policy-making branch of Fenton’s municipal government is the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The Mayor is elected for a two-year term and the Board of Aldermen consists of eight members; two Aldermen from each of the four wards elected for two-year terms.

Fenton is a fourth class municipality. Under this system, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen appoint a City Administrator, professional staff, and members of Boards and Commissions. These appointments provide recommendations and advice to the elected City officials.

The primary function of the Board of Aldermen is to fulfill the City’s legislative function, to establish policies and provide general direction for the City, and to provide the City Administrator and operating departments with the resources necessary to implement these policies.
