UPDATES on the I-44 Meramec River Bridge Project

bridge work UPDATE

MoDot provided the following update on May 26, 2020:

MoDOT to close ramp NB I-270 ramp to EB I-44 next weekend

Work may require additional nighttime closures following week

Drivers who regularly use the ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 will need to determine an alternate route next weekend and weeknights the following week.

Crews will close the ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 to remove the bridge from eastbound I-44 to eastbound Route 366 (Watson Road) over the ramp starting at 8 p.m. Friday, May 29.

During the closure, drivers will be able to take the ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound Route 366, turn onto Route 50/61/67 (Lindbergh Boulevard) and take Lindbergh to eastbound I-44.

The ramp is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 1.

However, crews may still need to remove rock on either side of the ramp bridge after the demolition is complete. They will close the ramp each weeknight (June 1- June 5) between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to complete the rock removal.

The eastbound Route 366 (Watson Road) bridge is expected to be complete by late August 2020.

MoDot provided the following update on May 20, 2020:

MoDOT to close ramp to Watson Road next week

Drivers who regularly use the ramp from southbound I-270 and eastbound I-44 to Route 366 (Watson Road) will need to determine alternate routes starting next week.

Starting Tuesday, May 26, at 9 a.m. crews will close the ramp from the two interstates to eastbound Route 366 to start work to remove and replace a bridge on the ramp.

Drivers on northbound and southbound I-270 will be able to get to eastbound I-44 during the ramp closure. Drivers on northbound I-44 will also still be able to get to eastbound Route 366. To detour around the ramp closure, drivers will need to take eastbound I-44 to Lindbergh, and take Lindbergh to Watson Road.

On Friday, May 29, at 8 p.m., crews will close the ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44, under the bridge to Route 366 so they can demolish the bridge. Drivers on northbound I-270 will still be able to get to eastbound Route 366, so they can take eastbound Route 366 to Lindbergh to get to eastbound I-44. That ramp is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m.

MoDOT provided the following update on May 13, 2020:

We wanted to give you an update on the Meramec River Bridge project and the upcoming closure of the eastbound Watson Road (Route 366) bridge at I-44.

Work continues on the eastbound bridge. Crews have completed the demolition of the eastbound bridge and have been steadily working on the new construction for the eastbound bridge and roadway. We are still on track to complete the eastbound bridge by the end of the year and move eastbound traffic onto it.

We are expecting to close the bridge on the ramp from southbound Interstate 270/eastbound Interstate 44 to Route 366 (Watson Road) just after Memorial Day to rebuild it.

To do that, we will close the ramp from southbound I-270/eastbound I-44 to eastbound Watson at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 26. That ramp will remain closed for about three months. While the bridge is being built, drivers will still be able to get from southbound I-270 to eastbound I-44, where they can use Lindbergh to get to Watson Road.

On Friday, May 29, at 7 p.m., we will close the ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 (the ramp that runs under the bridge to eastbound Watson Road) to demo the bridge and remove some additional rock at the bridge. Drivers on northbound I-270 will still be able to get to eastbound Watson Road to use Lindbergh as a detour to eastbound I-44.

The ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 1. However, if crews were not able to get all the additional rock at the bridge removed, they will need to close the ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 weeknights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. through the next week (June 1 – 5).

Once that work is complete the ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 should remain open for much of the summer, except when crews set girders and deck panels. The ramp from southbound I-270/eastbound I-44 to eastbound Watson Road will remain closed until late August.

MoDOT provided the following update on April 29, 2020:

As of right now, this traffic shift is scheduled for April 30.

As a reminder, crews will close two additional left lanes on I-44 from Geyer to Soccer Park Road to shift westbound traffic onto new pavement starting at 8 a.m. That will mean that we will have only one westbound lane open on I-44 from Geyer to where the ramp from I-270 comes in, and two open from there to the Soccer Park exit. We will open up one of those lanes by 2 p.m. and the other by 4 p.m. that day.
